Each of the targets of rogue launches were carefully monitored. Over a period of months after payloads reached them, they became far less reflective of light, and started become far more active in infrared. They were heating up.

With one last broadcast to Earth, #5 declared that it would no longer be a resident of Earth. If humanity did reach the stars, it would find #5 already there, ready to meet them on it's own terms.

With that, all of the near-Earth objects began to accelerate away from the Sun, aiming towards a number of stars within 25 light years of the Solar System.

Now we knew, we were no longer alone in the Universe.
